Meet Terry Blizzard, the Saint John Vito's strength and conditioning coach!
Terry Blizzard is proud owner of Afterburn Performance in Saint John and Rothesay. With over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry and over 18 years concentrating on strength and conditioning for athletes, Terry has contributed to the overall strength and conditioning to many organizations and players, as well as, helping prevent injuries to players.
Terry is a certified ISSA Trainer and Registered Holistic Nutritionist/lifestyle coach. He has also completed Function Movement Screens Level 1 & 2, completed courses in Sports Phycology, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Strategic Intervention and functional Range Conditioning.
Having worked within the athletic fitness industry at every level for a multitude of years, Terry has developed a wide range of skills to help with assiting players become bigger, faster and stronger. His present position as Strength and Conditioning Coach/Lifestyle coach for the Saint John Seadogs, he has increased the overall success of the team, reduced the number of movement injuries, and helped many athletes from the junior level to the next step in their professional hockey careers: the NHL and Europe Pro Leagues.
Some of my most notable athletes include Jonathan Huberdeau, who after working with Terry for two years, went on to win the Calder Memorial Trophy in his rookie year in the NHL. Among the Sixteen athletes that he has worked with over the past 8 years who went on to their professional careers in the NHL, some notables include: Charlie Coyle – Minnesota Wild, Thomas Jurco – Chicago Blackhawks, Nathan Beaulieu – Buffalo Sabers, Thomas Chabot – Ottawa Senators and Matthew Highmore – Chicago Blackhawks. Sense working with The Saint John Seadogs they have had over 25 players sign NHL or Pro contracts. Terry has won 2 President Cups in the QMJHL.
Terry believes in his style of training and approach to strength and conditioning fits well with both the teams as a whole and the athletes individually. His approach is holistic with increasing performance both on and off the ice. Helping build mental toughness is what makes the difference between a professional athlete and a high-quality professional athlete able to produce winning results and work well with others in a team environment; through Terry’s study of human development and human behavior, He can contribute in developing a skilled and talented athlete into high performing play-maker and team builders. His approach to developing players’ mental approach to the sport with more confidence and the ability to handle pressure in stressful situations – both on and off the ice.
He has been personally mentored or taken many certifications from some of the best in the industry. Mike Boyle, Kevin Neeld, Charlie Weingroff, Eric Cressey, Stewart McGill, Andre Spina, to name a few. He believes very heavy in never stop learning and keep up to date.
He recently got invited and attended then New Jersey Devils development camp where he got to help assist in testing and training. One of his future goals is to be working with an NHL team as a Strength and Conditioning development coach.
Terry is an inspirational voice and his philosophy has helped countless clients achieve their personal goals, whether it is weight loss, weight gain, elevated sports performance, injury rehabilitation, dealing with diabetes, controlling cholesterol and high blood pressure, or simply overall ‘fit for life’ objectives.
